Senior Congress leader and former chief minister Harish Rawat has objected to the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights opining that all types of government aid being provided to Madarsas should be stopped. Responding to this, the Bharatiya Janata Party has stated that Rawat indulges in appeasement and hence his concern is expected.
Rawat took to the social media stating that apart from religious students, children are also taught practical knowledge in Madarsas, which he said are helping in taking modern education forward. The Madarsas are gradually moving ahead with mainstream education, he said, adding that special assistance should be provided to these institutions to provide technical and skill education to their students. Stopping aid to Madarsas will harm the nation and society, he opined.
Responding to Rawat, the BJP State media in-charge Manveer Singh Chauhan said that the Congress leader’s allegations were unnecessary. The government is working to facilitate quality education in Madarsas with efforts underway for modernisation and educational improvement. “There should be no objection if institutions with forged student numbers or without proper recognition come within the ambit of action. There is no threat to the existence of institutions providing quality education and functioning according to the standards. Instead, the parents will send their children with more confidence to such institutions and the Madarsas will also progress further,” Chauhan said. Assistance can be provided only to those institutions which are functioning as per the standards set for educational institutions while those not following the standards are affecting the interests of the children. This issue is not limited to Madarsas alone but applies to educational institutions of other systems too, the BJP media in-charge added.
