Rawat interacts with Raji tribal community and hears their issues

Kumaon commissioner Deepak Rawat met the Raji scheduled tribe members in Champawat district on Sunday and inquired about their wellbeing by going door to door in Khirdwari village along with the district magistrate Navneet Pandey. Khirdwari is the only village in the district inhabited by this Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG). At a school he also met villagers of Lodiyalsera, Furkyajhala and Kotkendri. The commissioner also inspected the Anganwadi centre and the primary and junior high schools in the village and interacted with children. He also visited the house of the oldest couple in the Khirdwari village and talked to them about various things including their dialect, history and lifestyle. The administration is already working to bring the tribe into the mainstream of society, he said. Rawat issued necessary instructions to the officials concerned after obtaining information about the demands and problems of the tribals. The issues were mainly regarding road facilities, opening a high school, electricity and regular deployment of Auxiliary Nurse and Midwives (ANMs), among others. The officials of Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) informed Rawat that they have sent a proposal for the construction of a nine-kilometre road to the Central government. Besides this, the administration has sent a Rs 78 lakh proposal to the department concerned for the electrification of four other villages of the area including Khirdwari and the proceedings are underway. Regarding the construction of a suspension bridge the Public Works Department executive engineer informed a Rs 56 lakh proposal has been sent to the government. Rawat was informed that the administration will soon form self help groups to link villagers with self employment as there is no SHG in the village yet.
