Rawat looking to blame EVMs for impending defeat- BJP

Saturday, 19 February 2022 | PNS | Dehradun

Reacting to apprehensions regarding tampering of electronic voting machines (EVM) expressed by Congress leader Harish Rawat, the Bharatiya Janata Party has opined that he is afraid of his party’s impending electoral defeat which is why Congress workers are being told to keep an eye on the EVM strong rooms. The BJP state media in-charge Manveer Chauhan said that before the elections Rawat was projecting Yashpal Arya as a dalit chief minister though in reality he is himself daydreaming of becoming the chief minister. The verdict of the voters is stored in the EVMs now but Rawat is still making announcements under the delusion of becoming the chief minister, he said.

Chauhan alleged, “On the one hand while some Congress leaders are exposing their own party’s poll manifesto, Rawat has gone one step further and is making new announcements while considering himself to be the next CM. Rawat is an experienced leader which is why he has an idea of his impending defeat. This is why he is already looking for reasons to blame for his party’s electoral defeat by raising the question of the security of EVMs and ballot papers. This very Congress will be questioning the technology of EVMs after its defeat in the elections,” he said.

The BJP state media in-charge further averred that Rawat going to the people and making promises is pointless because the voters have no trust in the Congress election manifesto. “It was Rawat who was in the past talking of Yashpal Arya as Uttarakhand’s dalit CM like the CM in Punjab but now he is talking of not accepting anything less than the CM’s post for himself. The reliability of Rawat and the Congress is lost in public,” added Chauhan.
