The Bharatiya Janata Party has stated that the allegations levelled by senior Congress leader and former chief minister Harish Rawat, regarding the brother of the Ranikhet MLA are an attempt to sensationalise an issue for political gains. The BJP State spokesman Suresh Joshi said that the legal action taken so far in this case proves that the authorities are working in an impartial manner. Targetting the Congress on what he termed its stance of convenience on cow slaughter, he said that the people want to know whether it supports those involved in illegal cow slaughter.
Refuting the allegations levelled by Rawat, the BJP spokesman said that the law and order is being maintained effectively by the State government under chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami with necessary action being ensured without any partiality. “The incident along the India-Nepal border which Rawat is referring to also substantiates the facts we are stating. Proper legal action was taken regarding anything wrong found at the scene without any special treatment to anyone unlike what was done under Congress governments,” Joshi said. Terming Rawat’s statement regarding Maoism as irresponsible, he said that it is not proper for senior leaders to level such allegations without facts simply for sensationalism. The BJP government in Uttarakhand is working with complete transparency and strictness to maintain law and order in Uttarakhand. Immediate action is taken whenever any case comes to light. In the latest case too, the law is doing its work. All should avoid making statements on every issue just for political gains, he added.
Joshi further said that the Congress’ clarification on allegations of supporting those involved in cow slaughter is inadequate. “The Congress should give a straight answer instead of diversionary talk. The people of Uttarakhand simply want to know whether the Congress supports those who slaughter cows though the reply to this question is clear in their policy of appeasement. Rawat and all Congress leaders in the State should learn from the admission of Congress ministers in neighbouring Himachal Pradesh regarding unauthorised mosques. People in Uttarakhand will not accept those who provide protection to those involved in illegal cow slaughter,” the BJP State spokesman said.
