The Bharatiya Janata Party has opined that the statements of the former chief minister and senior Congress leader Harish Rawat regarding the Panchayat elections in Haridwar are baseless. Such statements are arising from disappointment at the scope of defeat in the elections. The BJP State media in-charge Manveer Singh Chauhan alleged that Rawat is well aware that as across the nation, the Congress has lost reliability in Uttarakhand too. Due to this, both Rawat and the Congress have lost their political ground in the rural areas of Haridwar.
Responding to the allegations leveled by the senior Congress leader, the BJP State media in-charge said that from the local leaders to its top office bearers- the Congress leadership is already anticipating defeat in the coming Haridwar Panchayat elections. This is why they are making baseless statements to prepare grounds for their defeat. “It is another thing that apart from the BJP, Rawat finds something amiss in his own party too. The pain in his heart is natural considering consistent defeats in the election and seniority without respect in his own party,” said Chauhan.
It is pertinent to mention here that Rawat has announced that he will sit on dharna outside the chief minister’s residence on August 18 against the repeated postponement of Panchayat elections in Haridwar.
Rawat has stated that the manner in which the Panchayat election was postponed in the name of reservation and delimitation in Haridwar district was very disappointing and was a threat to democracy. He has also alleged that it appears as if a group of influential persons is managing this matter, preventing some people from contesting Panchayat elections and is orchestrating actions to end the leadership of the rural area. It seems as if the Panchayat institution and the district magistrate are under serious pressure in a manner which threatens the Panchayati Raj system itself in the district, according to the senior Congress leader.
