Responding to the silent protest staged by former chief minister and senior Congress leader Harish Rawat, the Bharatiya Janata Party said that the Congress is sans issues due to which its leaders have no other option but to remain silent. The BJP State president Mahendra Bhatt said that the Vidhan Sabha is the highest forum for raising issues of public interest in the State. However, considering Rawat’s protest, it appears as if he does not have faith in the party’s MLAs.
Talking to the media here on Wednesday, Bhatt said that former CM Rawat and the Congress have no proper issues to raise. “Rawat staged a protest in Gairsain now but he did nothing for the place when he was in office. Far from making Gairsain the summer capital and facilitating its development, Rawat and the Congress had never been favour of the creation of Uttarakhand State. He ignored Gairsain when he was the chief minister but is now talking about the lack of development in the area. Rawat lacks issues and the Congress lacks ideas so there is no other option for them but to stage a silent fast in protest,” the BJP State president said.
He asked if Rawat lacks confidence in the capability of the Congress MLAs. Bhatt said that the Assembly is the place where public representatives raise issues of public interest. If Rawat wants to raise any important issues like those related to Gairsain, he should have discussed it with the MLAs of his party, who would have raised it in the Assembly. “What is the point in staging a protest on the road outside the Vidhan Sabha when the Assembly is in session? Rawat either lacks confidence in the capability of Congress MLAs to raise the subject in the Assembly or doubts their intentions. Maybe, he is staging a political drama just to sustain his political existence,” Bhatt said.
On the subject of land laws, Bhatt said that all the issues being raised by the Congress now are a result of the BJP’s efforts based on its ideology and principles. The public has faith that the BJP will achieve a decisive solution to issues including the development of the State and land laws, the BJP State president added.
