The extent of the surge in the number of patients and fatalities from Covid-19 in Uttarakhand can be understood from the fact that a total of 38551 new cases were reported in one single week which ended on May 1. In this week which is 59th week after the first case of the disease was reported in the state on March 15 last year staggering 629 deaths with a very high positivity rate of 13.87 percent was reported. In the 58th week (April 18 to 24) 26030 new cases and 246 deaths had occurred.
The week ending on May 1 also saw a dip in recovery rate as 19288 more new patients than recoveries were reported during this period. The number of active patients of the disease too crossed 50000 mark for the first time in the state during this week.
