Red alert- extremely heavy rain likely in State today

The State Meteorological Centre has issued a red alert for very heavy to extremely heavy rain likely to occur at isolated places in Udham Singh Nagar, Nainital and Champawat districts on Friday. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and very intense to extremely intense spells of rain are likely to occur at isolated places in Udham Singh Nagar, Nainital and Champawat districts. An orange alert has been issued for heavy to very heavy rain likely to occur at isolated places in Dehradun, Haridwar, Pauri and Bageshwar districts today. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and intense to very intense spells of rain are likely to occur at isolated places in Dehradun, Pauri and Bageshwar districts of Uttarakhand. Further, a yellow alert has also been issued for heavy rain likely to occur at isolated places in the State’s remaining districts. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, intense to very intense spells of rain are likely to occur at isolated places in the remaining districts.

Apart from this, light to moderate rain / thundershowers are likely to occur at most places in the State today.

The provisional State capital Dehradun is forecast to witness a generally cloudy sky. A few spells of moderate to heavy rain/thundershowers are likely to occur. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be about 28 degrees Celsius and 22 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun today.

Meanwhile on Thursday, Roorkee witnessed very heavy rain with 151 millimetres being recorded while Laksar witnessed heavy rain at 97.5 millimetres. Light to medium rain was reported in various parts of the State with 51.5 millimetres in Koti, 45 millimetres in Khanpur, 44.5 millimetres in Kalsi, 25 millimetres in Dehradun, 27 millimetres in Mussoorie and 17.5 millimetres in Srinagar.
