The State Meteorological Centre has issued a red alert for heavy to very heavy rain at a few places with extremely heavy rain at isolated places in Dehradun, Tehri and Haridwar districts on Monday. Considering the heavy rain being witnessed in various parts of the State, chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has directed chief secretary Anand Bardhan and Disaster Management secretary Vinod Kumar Suman to constantly monitor the situation. In view of the red alert, the authorities in Dehradun have ordered a holiday in all schools today.
An orange warning has also been issued for heavy to very heavy rain likely to occur at isolated places in Nainital, Champawat, Udham Singh Nagar, Uttarkashi and Pauri districts today. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and very intense to extremely intense spells of rain are likely to occur at isolated places in Dehradun, Tehri, Haridwar, Nainital, Champawat, Udham Singh Nagar, Uttarkashi and Pauri districts. The meteorological centre has further issued a yellow warning for heavy rain likely to occur at isolated places in Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar, Almora and Pithoragarh districts. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and intense to very intense spells of rain are likely to occur at isolated places in Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar, Almora and Pithoragarh
districts. Apart from this, light to moderate rain/thundershowers are likely to occur at most places in the State today. Dehradun is forecast to witness a generally cloudy sky. Few spells of moderate rain/thundershowers are likely to occur, of which one or two spells may be heavy to very heavy in some areas. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be about 28 degrees Celsius and 23 degrees Celsius respectively.
Light to heavy rain was reported in various parts of Dehradun on Sunday with 75.5 millimetres in the Hathibadkala area and moderate rain in other parts of the city causing waterlogging and other issues. There was 60.5 millimetres rain in Kichha, 45 millimetres in Rudrapur, 38.5 millimetres in Chamoli and 29.5 millimetres in Bazpur with light to moderate rain being reported in most parts of the State.
Meanwhile, Dhami directed officials to ensure that the administration takes immediate action in case of heavy rain, landslides or road blockage. Rescue and relief teams must be fully prepared to ensure that the affected people are provided all possible assistance on time. The CM also told officials that restoration of road, electricity, water and communications disrupted by inclement weather should be undertaken on a priority basis. The condition of the Char Dham Yatra and other major routes should be constantly monitored, he said. Dhami also appealed to the locals and those visiting the State to follow the advisories issued by the meteorological centre and State administration.
