Red alert issued- very heavy rain likely in parts of six districts today

Various parts of the State will face the possibility of heavy rains for the next few days. The State meteorological centre has issued a red alert (warning) regarding the possibility of heavy to very heavy rain/thunderstorms accompanied with lightning and very intense to extremely intense spells likely to occur at a few places and extremely heavy rain at isolated places in Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri, Nainital, Udham Singh Nagar and Champawat districts on Sunday. The centre has also issued a warning (alert) regarding the possibility of heavy to very heavy rain/thunderstorms accompanied with lightning and intense to very intense spells likely to occur at isolated places in Haridwar district today. Apart from this another warning (watch) has been issued regarding the possibility of thunderstorms accompanied with lightning and intense to very intense spells likely to occur at isolated places in the remaining districts of the State on Sunday. Heavy rainfall is also likely to occur at isolated places in Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Pithoragarh, Almora and Bageshwar districts today.Apart from this, light to moderate rain/thunderstorms are likely to occur at many places in Uttarkashi and Rudraprayag districts and at most places in remaining districts of the State on Sunday. The provisional State capital Dehradun is forecast to witness partly to generally cloudy skies.Very heavy rain/thundershowers with very intense to extremely intense spells are also likely to occur in some parts. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be about 29 degrees Celsius and 24 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun today.
Meanwhile, light to moderate rainfall was recorded in various parts of the State on Saturday with 17 millimetres in Laldhang, 16.5 millimetres in Kotdwar, 11 millimetres in Nainital and 8.1 millimetres in Dehradun. The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded in various parts of the State on Saturday were 27.9 degrees Celsius and 25.4 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun, 31.5 degrees Celsius and 26 degrees Celsius in Pantnagar, 19 degrees Celsius and 16.5 degrees Celsius in Mukteshwar and 23.3 degrees Celsius and 18.8 degrees Celsius in New Tehri.
