Red alert- very heavy to extremely heavy rain forecast in eight districts

A day after light to heavy rains were experienced in various parts of the State, the State meteorological centre has issued a red alert (warning) regarding the possibility of heavy to very heavy rain likely to occur at a few places with very heavy to extremely heavy rain at isolated places in Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri, Haridwar, Nainital, Champawat, Udham Singh Nagar and Bageshwar districts on Wednesday. Thunderstorms accompanied with lightning and very intense to extremely intense spells are likely to occur at isolated places in the above mentioned districts today. The meteorological centre has also issued a yellow warning (watch) regarding the possibility of thunderstorms accompanied with lightning and intense to very intense spells likely to occur at isolated places in the remaining districts of the State. Heavy rain is also likely to occur at isolated places in Chamoli, Almora and Pithoragarh districts today. Apart from this, light to moderate rain/thunderstorms are likely to occur at many places in Uttarkashi and Pithoragarh districts and at most places in the remaining districts of the State today.

The provisional State capital Dehradun is forecast to witness a generally cloudy sky. Heavy to very heavy rain/thundershowers are likely to occur in some areas. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be about 27 degrees Celsius and 24 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, moderate to heavy rains were reported in various parts of the State with 76.5 millimetres in Gularbhoj, 46 millimetres in Kotdwar, 40.5 millimetres in Kashipur, 36 millimetres in Dehradun, 35 millimetres in Rudrapur, 34 millimetres in Bazpur and 25.6 millimetres in Pantnagar. The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded in various places on Tuesday were 27.6 degrees Celsius and 24 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun, 26.7 degrees Celsius and 24 degrees Celsius in Pantnagar, 21 degrees Celsius and 16.7 degrees Celsius in Mukteshwar and 23 degrees Celsius and 19.4 degrees Celsius in New Tehri.
