In line with the Central government’s stress on facilitating comprehensive development of some select villages along the international borders in a mission mode under the Vibrant Village Scheme, the Uttarkashi district administration is now gearing up to repopulate Nelang and Jadung villages lying along the Tibetan (China) border through adopting multipronged development strategy. Announcing this, the district magistrate Meharban Singh Bisht said that massive infrastructural activities would be taken up in these two villages under the Vibrant Village Scheme along with creating livelihood opportunities for the villagers. He further said that prior to starting things on the ground, they had held detailed discussions with the villagers and the officers of several departments besides the army.

While dwelling on the huge tourism potential lying untapped in these two picturesque villages, the DM said that the administration is focusing on expansion of homestay facilities in Jadung village through creation of clusters. He further said that the original inhabitants of Nelang-Jadung villages have sounded ready to help the administration in facilitating rehabilitation of these   two villages. “They stressed on providing the villagers with basic facilities like water, road and housing as well as employment opportunities,” he added.

The meeting was attended by a host of officers from multiple departments like police, forest, tourism, sports and revenue besides the army, including the superintendent of police, chief development officer, divisional forest officer, district tourism development officer, adventure sports officer, tehsildar and naib tehsildar. It was decided at the meeting that the suggestions offered by the locals would be incorporated in the village development scheme.

Further, the administration is intent on promoting local products and also rolling out training and skill development schemes aside from enhancing health and educational facilities in order that these villages become self-reliant, vibrant villages.
