Reducing road accidents major challenge in U’khand: governor

 The governor lieutenant general (retd) Gurmit Singh has said that reducing the number of road accidents in Uttarakhand is a major challenge and a comprehensive awareness campaign on road safety is needed in the State. He said that the initial one-hour period which is called the golden hour is very important in saving the life of an accident victim. The governor was addressing a programme organised at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Rishikesh on the occasion of World Trauma Week-2023’ on Monday.

 The governor said that the safe and timely transport of the accident victim to the trauma centre is a major challenge. He emphasised that the time needed for transport of accident victims should be reduced. Singh appreciated AIIMS Rishikesh for transport of medicines by use of drone technology, Heli ambulance service and telemedicine services. He appreciated the doctors of the AIIMS Rishikesh for providing tele -consultation to more than 12,000 people in the last one year.

 The officiating director of AIIMS Rishikesh Dr Meenu Singh said that there is a need to stop the deaths due to trauma. She said that the AIIMS Rishikesh is trying to make the maximum number of people aware about trauma.

 The head of department (HoD) of trauma, Dr Kamar Azam gave a detailed presentation about the activities undertaken during the trauma week.

The HoD of trauma department, Rutgers University USA, Dr Mayur Narayan said that the trauma centre of AIIMS Rishikesh is a blessing for Uttarakhand.

 The organising secretary of the programme and trauma surgeon of AIIMS Rishikesh Dr Madhur Uniyal said the life of 243 patients was saved by the trauma centre in the last one year.
