Registrar Kanungo caught by Vigilance while accepting bribe

Accused had sought bribe to facilitate land mutation of complainant
The registrar Kanungo, Rajesh Marwah who was allegedly demanding a bribe in order to facilitate mutation of a plot of land was caught red handed here by the Vigilance team from Dehradun. After interrogation in the Haridwar Tehsil premises for several hours, the Vigilance team allowed two other registrar Kanungos to leave while the interrogation of accused registrar Kanungo continued till late in the evening.
Sanjay Singh, a resident of Haridwar had himself approached the Vigilance headquarters on October 18 and made a written request regarding the demand for bribe. The complainant had stated that he had purchased a plot in the name of his wife, for which he had applied in the Tehsil to get the mutation done. It was alleged that the registrar Kanungo was demanding a bribe in order to facilitate the land mutation. When Vigilance superintendent of police Renu Lohani got the investigation done in this regard, the allegations were prima facie found to be true. After investigation, a team was formed under the supervision of CO Surendra Singh Samant.
The team formed under the leadership of inspector Vibha Verma reached the Tehsil campus on Saturday and caught registrar Kanungo Rajesh Kumar Marwah red handed while in the act of accepting a sum of Rs 2,800 in bribe.
