The main accused of the Reliance Jewels heist, Shashank Singh (25) was also planning to rob a jewellery store in Gujarat’s Mehsana with his gang. The Gujarat police with the help of Dehradun police arrested one of the gang members from Mehsana with weapons on Sunday, the Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh said. He said that various police teams from Dehradun have been visiting and conducting raids in various States to gather information about the gang involved in the Reliance Jewels robbery.
The police team received information that Shashank’s gang was planning to carry out a major robbery in Mehsana. The team shared the information with Gujarat police and stayed there for the past 10 days to gather information about the gang and the robbery. He said that the Gujarat Police in collaboration with Dehradun Police finally arrested a member of Shashank’s gang from the Mehsana area identified as Vikas Kumar on Sunday.
The police have also recovered illegal weapons from Kumar who was allegedly conducting a recce of a jewellery showroom when police arrested him, said SSP. He said that the accused stated in the preliminary interrogation that Shashank had made the plan to rob the jewellery store in Gujarat. For the successful execution, Kumar was staying in Mehsana for the past few days to conduct a recce of the jewellery store and nearby area, added SSP.
