The police arrested one of the gang members who supplied stolen vehicles to robbers involved in looting the Reliance Jewels store in Dehradun on November 9. The police received information about the said gang member identified as Akbar (25), a resident of Uttar Pradesh’s Amroha, after interrogating the main accused of the robbery Abhishek, said the Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh. He said that Akbar was in Rajasthan’s Kishangarh jail for eight months for some offense along with other accused named Akram and Mukesh from Rajasthan and Sumit from Aligarh along with others. “When Akbar got out of jail, he got acquainted with a man named Sujit. He asked him to arrange two bikes and a car stating he needs those to execute some plan. He promised good money to Akbar. Akbar included Sumit in his plan and looted a car from a person in the first week of June 2023 in Agra’s Khandauli area. They put up a counterfeit number plate on the car and kept it in Bijnor to hide it from police while using it occasionally. They handed over the car to the robbers’ gang in Saharanpur on October 30. They then stole two motorcycles from Gurgaon in September and handed these over to the robbers on November 6 and 7, a couple of days before the execution of the robbery in Dehradun on November 9. The robbers had given them Rs 27,000 for this task,” said SSP.
He said that the accused has confessed that Abhishek alias Gandhi was one of the gang members who had come to receive the stolen vehicles before the robbery. Singh said that the police continue to conduct raids in other states to arrest other gang members and will soon nab all members of different gangs who helped in the execution of the robbery.
