Relics of Chand king presented to KU’s Himalayan Museum

In latest news from Uttarakhand, the Himalayan Museum under the History department in the DSB campus of Kumaun University has found a statue of the Chand dynasty king Uday Chand. Notably, some relics were recently found from Bhimeshwar Mahadev temple in Bhimtal which include a large and wide stone cover from the Chand period (14th century), Nandi bull, ghata-pallava from the Katyuri period (9th century), Akash Linga (12th century) and the bits of a statue which could possibly be that of the king Uday Chand.
The regional archaeological officer Chandra Singh Chauhan presented these relics to the in-charge, Himalayan Museum DSB Campus Prof Savitri Kaida Jantwal for preservation and display. Prof Kaida expressed her gratitude to the district magistrate Nainital Vandana Singh, archaeological department, Bhimeshwar Mahadev temple committee and the local people for the finding of these rare relics. She further lauded KU vice chancellor Prof Diwan Singh Rawat for his encouragement to the archaeological recovery of relics.
