The Uttarakhand government has clarified that property and document registration in the State will continue in both online and offline modes. The decision came after advocates raised concerns that making the system fully online would affect their work and business. A recent official letter stated that the registration process should not be made completely online at present.
The secretary of the Bar Association of Dehradun, Ajay Bisht said that their demand also includes making wills and marriage certificates available through the offline mode, as these services are still being processed online. He said that an order has now been issued regarding property and document registration.
He added that the association has demanded both online and offline methods so that people can choose whichever mode is more comfortable for them. He also said that the online system has affected the work of many advocates, typists and stamp vendors.
According to officials, making the process fully online may affect advocates, deed writers and people who depend on offline registration work. Because of this, the old offline system will continue along with the online facility. Officials also referred to the Uttarakhand Rules, 2023, under which identity verification of people involved in registration can be done through Aadhaar-based biometric methods. This includes fingerprint scan, iris scan and other digital verification systems.
According to the government, the aim of biometric verification is to confirm the identity of the person signing the document and to stop fraud cases, fake registrations and impersonation.
At the same time, the order also mentions that citizens will have the option to choose from either system. People can register their documents online or complete the process through the traditional offline method.
