Thunderstorm, hail/lightning & gusty wind warning issued for 5 districts
In what has come as a major relief for the citizens and some government departments, rains in parts of Uttarakhand in the past couple of days have not only brought relief from the rising heat but have also helped tackle the raging forest fires. The State meteorological centre has forecast very light to light rainfall/thunderstorm at a few places in Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar and Pithoragarh districts and at isolated places in the remaining parts of Uttarakhand. Surface winds are likely to be strong and gusty during the day time. Apart from this the meteorological centre has also issued a yellow (watch) warning regarding the possibility of thunderstorm accompanied with hail/lightning and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) which is likely to occur at isolated places in Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar and Pithoragarh districts on Sunday.
In the provisional State capital, the meteorological centre has forecast the possibility of thunder cloud development/light rain towards the afternoon/evening. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be about 38 degrees Celsius and 22 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun on Sunday.
It is pertinent to mention here that though the maximum temperature in Dehradun was forecast to reach 40 degrees Celsius on Friday, rains in the foothills surrounding the Doon valley and various parts of the state kept the maximum temperature in Dehradun and other parts of the State in check.Meanwhile, the maximum and minimum temperatures recorded in various parts of the State on Saturday were 38.8 degrees Celsius and 21.1 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun, 38.7 degrees Celsius and 18.9 degrees Celsius in Pantnagar, 28.2 degrees Celsius and 12.2 degrees Celsius in Mukteshwar and 27.6 degrees Celsius and 15.6 degrees Celsius respectively in New Tehri. The rainfall recorded in some parts of the State on Saturday was 14 millimetres in Song, 8.5 millimetres in Ukhimath, six millimetres in Kedarnath, 3.5 millimetres in Pandukeshwar and three millimetres in Gangotri.
