Relief from heat wave conditions forecast today

The maximum and minimum temperatures remained a few degrees above normal in the plains and in some mountainous regions even as some mountainous regions received light to moderate rain on Monday. The mercury level is expected to get slightly lower today. The State meteorological centre forecast that very light to light rain/thunderstorms are likely to occur at isolated places in Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Bageshwar, Pithoragarh, Almora and Champawat districts today while dry weather is likely to prevail in the remaining districts. The meteorological centre has also issued a yellow warning (Watch) regarding the possibility of thunderstorms accompanied with lightning/gusty wind (30-40 kmph) likely to occur at isolated places in above-mentioned districts of Uttarakhand.

The provisional State capital Dehradun is forecast to witness a mainly clear to partly cloudy sky. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be about 39 degrees Celsius and 23 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun on Tuesday.

The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded on Monday were 40 degrees Celsius and 23.5 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun, 39.5 degrees Celsius and 24.7 degrees Celsius in Pantnagar, 29.1 degrees Celsius and 13.1 degrees Celsius in Mukteshwar and 28.5 degrees Celsius and 14.1 degrees Celsius in New Tehri. There was 19.5 millimetres rain in Rikhnikhal, 17.5 millimetres in Ukhimath, 13.5 millimetres in Agastyamuni, 12 millimetres in Jakholi and five millimetres in Champawat.
