Relief- rain forecast across State, temperatures set to drop

People in Dehradun and elsewhere in the State may finally get some relief from heat wave conditions today. The State meteorological centre has forecast that light to moderate rain/thunderstorms are likely to occur at many places in all districts of the State on Wednesday. The meteorological centre has also issued a warning regarding the possibility of thunderstorms accompanied with lightning/squall (60-70 kmph gusting up to 80 kmph) likely to occur at isolated places in Dehradun, Pauri, Haridwar, Udham Singh Nagar, Nainital and Champawat districts. Thunderstorms accompanied with lightning/intense spells of rain/gusty wind (40-50 kmph) are likely to occur at isolated places in Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar and Pithoragarh districts. Further, thunderstorms accompanied with lightning/gusty winds (40-50 kmph) are likely to occur at isolated places in Tehri and Almora districts of Uttarakhand.
The meteorological centre has further forecast that the provisional State capital Dehradun will experience a partly to generally cloudy sky. Light to moderate rain/thunderstorms accompanied with lightning/squall (60-70 kmph gusting up to 80 kmph) are likely to occur in some areas towards the afternoon/evening. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be about 38 degrees Celsius and 26 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun today.
The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded in various parts of the State on Tuesday were 41.8 degrees Celsius and 27.6 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun, 41.8 degrees Celsius and 25.4 degrees Celsius in Pantnagar, 31.5 degrees Celsius and 18.1 degrees Celsius in Mukteshwar and 30.9 degrees Celsius and 21.2 degrees Celsius in New Tehri. Light to moderate rain was reported in some areas with 37.5 millimetres in Ukhimath and eight millimetres in Didihat.
