The Covid-19 pandemic may be a thing of the past but remote working is still popular. The work landscape experienced significant changes during the pandemic prompting many to express a preference for remote work over returning to the traditional office environment. Initially necessitated by the pandemic, remote working or working from home has now become a common practice. Consequently, places like cafes have become more popular as individuals seek alternative workspaces, said the Dehradun-based café owner.

Dwelling on the trend of work from home, an employee working in a multinational company Saksham Panchal said, “I have been employed in a multinational company in Noida for seven years, but due to the Covid-19 situation, remote working became mandatory, leading to an ongoing work-from-home arrangement.”

He further added that working from home has offered him numerous benefits like saving money on rent and money on daily meals. Additionally, he said that the work from home arrangement has caused him to abandon the traditional practice of working in a specific field or adhering to a fixed schedule.

Another employee working in an IT company in Pune, Vikas Mishra said that the way people work has transformed drastically in the post-Covid era. The concept of working from home has its advantages and disadvantages. While working remotely, individuals including himself, have exhibited laziness and lost the discipline of adhering to a schedule. Further, the monotony of working from home occasionally leads him to choose cafes as an alternative, despite the additional expense, he said. A café owner Sahil Makin told this correspondent that both companies and employees are inclined towards opting for remote work. Companies are encouraged to offer this option due to reduced expenses such as electricity and building rent. Consequently, the shift in working style post-Covid has proven beneficial for Dehradun’s cafes. The youth in Dehradun enjoy working in cafes and often choose to spend their evenings there after working from home. As a result, the customers frequenting cafes have significantly increased, he said.
