The deputy inspector general of the Government Railway Police (GRP) P Renuka Devi reviewed arrangements of the railway police ahead of the ensuing Char Dham Yatra. She said that the tourism police assistance centres are being established in all four police stations of GRP- Dehradun, Haridwar, Laksar and Kathgodam in which trained personnel will be appointed for eight hours of duty each daily. These centres will provide information to the tourists and pilgrims coming for Char Dham Yatra about the routes, hotels, Dharamshalas, temples, hospitals, buses, taxis, auto rickshaws and other establishments and services available on the Char Dham routes. The deployed personnel are expected to behave politely with pilgrims and tourists. The GRP will also provide information regarding blocked roads or highways due to landslides and other reasons for people coming to railway stations from outside. She also directed to take necessary measures to prevent incidents like theft of passengers’ luggage, mobile phones, poisoning, and human trafficking in trains and to control crowding in trains and railway stations. The officials concerned will ensure regular patrolling on railway tracks and intensive checking in railway station premises with the help of the dog squad and respective in-charge. The police will also monitor the railway station premises through CCTVs installed in all railway stations. Besides this, she also directed to make proper arrangements for parking and raise awareness among pilgrims and tourists about safety and security. The IG also instructed the officials to make necessary arrangements in coordination with the Railways in case railway stations get overcrowded with passengers. The officer in-charge will deploy additional personnel on duty to make necessary announcements through loudhailer to avoid stampede-like situations. They will also ensure that no one is travelling by sitting on the roofs, entrance gate and on parts of the train’s engine to avoid fatal accidents. Necessary action must be taken against people not abiding by the rule, she added.
