The Dehradun district magistrate Sonika will soon review the report regarding the alleged scam in the registration of fake sanitation workers under Mohalla Swachhata Samiti in the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD). The chief development officer Jharna Kamthan handed over the report to the DM recently after analysing the MCD’s report in the matter. The corporation had formed Mohalla Swachhata Samiti to carry out works like sweeping and others on a regular basis in all 100 wards. Each ward was allocated about 10 to 12 sanitation workers under the Samiti. The corporation also issued a Rs 15,000 salary for each worker through the Samiti. However, many claimed that Samiti headed by the councillors concerned has not been paying the same salary to every worker. Many people including several sanitation workers alleged that there were several irregularities regarding information about sanitation workers listed under the Samiti. They claimed it to be a fraud worth crores of rupees. When this matter reached the DM in January, she formed a committee under Kamthan to investigate the matter. The committee conducted physical inspections and found some irregularities. They also allegedly failed to find the listed sanitation workers during the physical verification process. The district administration then sought a report from MCD on the matter regarding several points. The corporation submitted the report to CDO in March and after analysing the report for about two months, she submitted the report to the DM. The administration allegedly found irregularities in the registration of about 100 sanitation workers. However, Sonika said that she is yet to review the report but will take appropriate action if finds any irregularity.
