Video contact with the stranded workers in the Silkyara tunnel was established on Tuesday. For the first time since the 41 workers got stuck in the partially collapsed tunnel on November 12, visual contact was established with them using an endoscopic flexi camera. The rescue operation is also being carried out round the clock and more developments are expected within 24 hours. A six-inch diameter pipe place through the debris has also been made functional to provide better meals and other necessary items to the stranded workers. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a telephonic conversation with Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Tuesday to take stock of the rescue operation. This is the fourth time the PM has called the CM since November 12 to seek information about the stranded workers and the status of the rescue operation.
The CM informed the PM that with the six-inch diameter pipe being laid through the debris, better meals and other necessary items were being provided to the stranded workers. The CM also informed Modi that an endoscopic flexi camera has been installed through which visual contact had also been established with the workers. He said that PM Modi is also consistently providing his guidance and assistance in this effort. The PM said that rescuing the stranded workers soon is the top priority of the government.
Meanwhile, Urban Development minister and minister in-charge of Uttarkashi district, Prem Chand Agrawal also visited the Silkyara tunnel to inspect the rescue operation on Tuesday. He said that PM Modi is consistently monitoring the operation while the CM is also seeking regular updates on it. Various government agencies, domestic and foreign experts are involved in the rescue mission.
