A tigress from the Dhela rescue centre in Corbett tiger reserve has been sent to the Rajaji tiger reserve. The big cat was expected to reach its destination late on Monday evening. The chief wildlife warden Samit Sinha has granted his approval to the relocation of the tigress after which the authorities followed the due procedure as per the Central Zoo Authority guidelines and directions of the National Tiger Conservation Authority.
After a medical check up the tigress, aged between five to six years, was found suitable for relocation. Officials of the Corbett and Rajaji tiger reserves along with veterinarians were part of the team involved in the relocation operation. It is pertinent to mention here that in the recent past, chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami had directed the Forest department officials to work on the possibility of shifting big cats from rescue centres to zoos and other States. Last month, two tigers were relocated from the rescue centre in Corbett to the Dehradun zoo. The rescue centre in Corbett has at least half a dozen rescued tigers at present. According to officials, more tigers and leopards being brought to the centre after being rescued has resulted in a lack of space at the facility.
