Residents and young adults have expressed their happiness over the decision to move the Sunday market from Rangers Ground, located near Lansdowne Chowk, to a new site on Metro Rail Limited property near ISBT in Dehradun. It’s important to mention that this relocation has been a longstanding request from both the residents and the shopkeepers of Paltan Bazaar. The residents have consistently called for the said market’s relocation, as its previous location at Rangers Ground in the centre of the city was contributing to traffic congestion and other issues.

Following the direction of the district magistrate, the order has come up for the Sunday market relocation from Rangers Ground to the new site near ISBT.

Resident Laxmi Devi stated that the decision to relocate the Sunday market is commendable and has been well-received by them. This change will allow residents, including the elderly and others, to enjoy outings on Sundays more easily. Previously, the market’s location at Rangers Ground contributed to traffic congestion and created difficulties for residents like them in terms of leisure activities.

Additionally, another resident, Tanmay Jain, shared similar sentiments. He said that relocating the Sunday market will alleviate various issues, including those related to emergencies and weekend outings.

Some young adults said that the relocation of the Sunday market will now allow them to access the Ranger’s Ground to play sports on Sundays. A young adult named Shivam Aggarwal said that for the past few years, the Ranger’s Ground has been occupied by the Sunday market, preventing young adults from playing there. He said that his brother used to tell him that before the establishment of the Sunday market, he and his friends would frequently visit that location to play cricket. He believed that now, with the market’s relocation, he and his friends will also have the opportunity to play cricket and engage in other sports at that site.
