Resignation spree in Uttarakhand Cong continues

Sunday, 17 March 2024 | PNS | DEHRADUN

The Uttarakhand Congress is continuing to get rocked by the resignations of the leaders. On Saturday Congress leader Anukriti Gusain also resigned from the party. In a letter directed to the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara, she attributed personal reasons for her resignation.

Gusain who is the daughter in law of the powerful leader of Congress party Harak Singh Rawat had fought the assembly election of 2022 from Lansdowne seat of Pauri district on the ticket of Congress party. She however lost the seat to Dilip Singh Rawat of BJP.

The resignation of Gusain comes on the heels of the resignation by senior leaders Vijaypal Singh Sajwan and Malchand on Friday. Both Sajwan and Malchand joined the BJP on Saturday. Gusain, a popular and active leader was considered to be the future prospect in the Congress party. She is now expected to join the BJP. The resignation of Gusain has given substance to the talk of Harak Singh Rawat leaving the Congress party again. Harak and Gusain had resigned from the BJP just ahead of the assembly election of 2022 and had joined Congress on the premise that the Congress party would come to power in the State. Contrary to their assumption the BJP came back to power in Uttarakhand.

It is pertinent to mention here that Laxmi Rana, another close aide of Harak Singh Rawat had resigned from the Congress party recently.
