Restricted entry in secretariat; Harish Rawat observes fast

In protest against the Uttarakhand government’s decision to restrict the entry of general public in the state secretariat, the former chief minister and general secretary of All India Congress Committee (AICC) Harish Rawat observed a fast in front of the secretariat building on Wednesday. Rawat was accompanied by some of his supporters which included senior Congress leader Ganesh Godiyal. Talking to the media persons, Rawat said that keeping the secretariat closed for long is not in the interest of the people. “I received calls from many people who complained that they are not being allowed entry into the secretariat due to which they are facing problems. It is right that precaution should be observed to combat Covid-19 but keeping the secretariat closed is not proper. Measures like proper scanning of visitors and deploying doctors should be taken,’’ he said.

The former CM added that he had appealed to the state government to allow entry into the secretariat but his appeal was ignored so he decided to observe a silent protest on the issue. “ It is for the state government to take a decision on the subject but it is not proper to keep people away from their democratic right for long,’’ he quipped.
