Panchayati Raj department authorises the Panchayats to spend Rs 20,000 for sanitisation & maintenance of Quarantine centres

The Uttarakhand government has started gearing itself up for the return of the migrants from other parts of the country with a surge in the second wave of the Covid-19. More than three lakh people working in different parts of the country had returned to their native places in the state last year after the lockdown was imposed to flatten the curve of the disease. With many states imposing restrictions similar to lockdown during the ongoing second wave of the pandemic many workers have started returning back to their homes.  On Monday the secretary Panchayati Raj, HC Semwal directed all District Panchayati Raj Officers (DPRO) to coordinate with the village Panchayats for taking appropriate measures in view of the return of immigrants. The department also sanctioned a sum of Rs 20,000 for every village Panchayat for undertaking sanitisation activity in the village and maintenance of the quarantine centres.  The department has said that the village Pradhans can also claim the money they had spent in maintenance of quarantine centres last year from the untied fund (central finance/ state finance) after necessary approval from DPRO concerned. The Rs 20,000 limit is earmarked for the current financial year for Panchayats.

In the order the secretary has said that the arrangements for putting the returnees in quarantine in their homes should be done and in the instances where it is not possible they should stay in the Panchayat Bhawan, schools or any available government building.  Semwal has also nominated nodal officers who would oversee the maintenance, sanitisation, supply of food items and other arrangements at quarantine centres. These officers are DPRO Headquarters M Jafar Khan, Chief Probationary officer Women welfare directorate Mohit Chaudhary,  Accountant directorate Panchayati Raj Deepak Singh Patwal, Accountant women welfare directorate Pravin Singh, Personal Assistant women welfare directorate Deep Singh and Junior Assistant Panchayati Raj directorate Pradhyumn Singh.
