The Rajiv Gandhi Panchayati Raj Sangathan (RGPRS) will undertake a mega campaign for proper implementation of the 73rd and 74th constitutional amendments in the State.
Addressing a press conference at Rajiv Bhawan here on Thursday, the state in- charge of the organisation, Dilip Rathore said that the Panchayati Raj is a State subject and it is the responsibility of the State government to ensure that it strengthens the Panchayati Raj system by decentralising the power.
Rathore said that the 11th and 12th schedules of constitution mention about the scope, powers and importance of the Panchayats and urban local bodies. He said that in the 11th schedule, the Panchayats are bestowed with 29 subjects while the 12th schedule gives the power to ULBs to make decisions on 18 subjects. Rathore said that it is unfortunate that neither the people nor the elected representatives are aware about the powers of Panchayats. He said that the RGPRS will undertake an awareness campaign in this regard. The state president of the organisation Lalit Pharswan, former MP Pradeep Tamta, Mathuradutt Joshi and Garima Dasauni were present on the occasion.
