Rishikesh-Karnprayag rail project to be a blessing for U’khand: CM

Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has said that after the completion of the Rishikesh-Karnprayag rail line project the people of the State will get transportation facilities and the pilgrims visiting the State for Badrinath and Kedarnath will also benefit. He said that the railway project will prove to be a milestone for the State.  The CM said that the railway line will also give an impetus to the winter Char Dham Yatra. 

Dhami conducted an inspection of the ongoing railway project at Sewai, Karnprayag in Chamoli district on Saturday.

In his visit, the CM sought information about the construction works, infrastructure facilities and the progress of the project from the officers. He also met the labourers and asked about their wellbeing. The CM said that due to the efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the dream of rail in the mountains is being fulfilled. He said that the Rishikesh-Karnprayag rail line has shown the special affinity the PM has towards Uttarakhand.

The CM said that PM Modi has given many gifts such as the all-weather road, air and railway connectivity to Uttarakhand. He said that after completion of the Rishikesh-Karnprayag rail line the Char Dhams will be connected by rail.

The officers informed the CM that the total length of the Rishikesh-Karnprayag rail line is 125-kilometre long and 16 tunnels and 12 stations are being constructed for it. The project is expected to be completed in December 2026.

The engineers informed that the station of Karnprayag is being constructed in Sewai.  On December 25 last year, the breakthrough of the 6.3 kilometre long escape tunnel between Gauchar and Sewai was achieved. The breakthrough of the 6.2 kilometre main tunnel between the two stations will be in March this year.  Work from both the directions of this tunnel is being undertaken at present.

 Karnprayag MLA Anil Nautiyal, Tharali MLA B R Tamta, former MLA Rajendra Bhandari, AGM of Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) Ajay Kumar, DGM Bhupendra Singh and others accompanied the CM.
