Anticipating a large influx of tourists and devotees over the weekend following Eid, police have decided to ban the entry of two-wheelers into Nainital and Kainchi Dham. Besides, taxis from other districts of the state will not be allowed to enter Nainital city during this period, said the additional superintendent of police. Jagdish Chandra.
“As per our experiences, a large number of tourists arrive in Nainital on bikes from Rampur, Moradabad and surrounding areas, including Udham Singh Nagar district every year during the Eid festivities and the weekend. This leads to serious traffic congestion in the city. While the larger vehicles are stopped at entry points, bikes continue to enter the city, disrupting traffic. The risks of accidents increases due to reckless bike riders. The adequate parking space crunch for two-wheelers in Nainital and Kainchi Dham further worsens things,” he said. He, however, hastened to add that this ban would be strictly enforced from Eid until the following weekend. “Bikes coming from outside the district will be stopped in Kathgodam and Kaladhungi. From there, tourists can reach Nainital and Kainchi Dham via shuttle service or public transportation.
