The Uttarakhand Congress took out a march in the provisional state capital against what it termed increasing unemployment in the State. Large number of Congress leaders and workers participated in the foot march which was led by Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara and former chief minister Harish Rawat. The march commenced from Rajiv Gandhi complex on the Dispensary Road and ended at Gandhi Park. Addressing the gathering, the PCC president Mahara said that the unemployment rate in Uttarakhand has scaled to 8.8 per cent. He said that in every election the BJP makes lofty promises of recruitment and appointment on the backlog posts but forgets everything once it comes to power. Mahara said that Narendra Modi had promised in the year 2014 that two crore jobs will be created every year but this commitment of his has proved to be a rhetoric only. The PCC president said that employment is a major challenge in the State but those in power are paying no heed to this. He said that the unemployed were brutally lathi-charged and involvement of BJP leaders is clearly seen in the recruitment scams in Uttarakhand.
Former CM Rawat who had given a call for the march said that the government is snatching away the employment from the youngsters. He said that more than 93,000 posts in the State government are vacant at present but no effort is being made to fill them. Rawat claimed that more than 700 industrial units in SIIDCUL have closed in the last few years due to which thousands of labourers have lost their jobs.
The former CM said that in the last few years the government only deceived the youth. The recruitment advertisements are released but the process of recruitment gets delayed and stalled.
He said that the number of workforce in the BHEL has reduced by 75 per cent. Rawat said that the Congress party will continue to fight for the interests of the unemployed of the State. Rawat said that the year 2023 has almost obliterated very important points related to economic, political and social discourse.
Senior leaders Govind Singh Kunjwal, Mantri Prasad Naithani, Hira Singh Bisht, Shoorveer Singh Sajwan, Satpal Brahmchari, Mathura Dut Joshi, Surendra Agarwal, Garima Dasauni and others took part in the march.
