Road accident claims two lives in Chamoli

Two people were killed and 10 were injured after a vehicle carrying a wedding party fell into a gorge near Chai-Thayi village of Joshimath in Chamoli district on late Tuesday night. The police informed that the vehicle was carrying a total of 12 people who were returning to their village after attending a wedding in Kilmada. It appears in the preliminary inquiry that the driver lost control of the vehicle that caused the accident, as per the police. The officials said that the accident occurred late Tuesday night and the police immediately called in rescue teams of State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) with necessary equipment to carry out rescue operations. The SDRF team led by sub inspector Jagmohan Singh reached the spot and started the rescue operation in dark and in adverse conditions throughout the night. The officials added that SDRF with the help of the police and locals retrieved the bodies of two people- Kamal Singh Negi (43) and Sangeeta Devi (32) who died at the spot besides rescuing 10 injured people from the gorge in the wee hours of Wednesday.  The injured included seven women and three men who were admitted in the hospital for treatment, as per the police
