A bus driver died and three persons sustained injuries after an Uttarakhand Transport Corporation bus collided with a pickup truck on Friday afternoon on the Haldwani-Ramnagar bypass bridge built on the Kosi river. The bus was on its way to Ramnagar from Haldwani when it collided with a pickup truck and fell off the bridge, said Baljeet Singh, the police circle officer of Ramanagar, Nainital. He told The Pioneer that the drivers of both vehicles were reportedly overspeeding due to which the vehicles collided with each other and the bus being in more speed than the truck fell off the bridge and overturned.

The truck also overturned on the road and its driver also got injured. The team of the district administration and the police arrived at the accident site and took the driver and injured passengers and conducted to the hospital. The CO informed that the bus driver was declared dead by the doctors. “Most of the passengers did not have any serious injuries.

Only three to four passengers sustained some wounds and cuts for which they were taken to the hospital and everybody was discharged by the evening after the treatment. The police ensured all passengers of the bus reach their destinations safely.  We are looking into the matter and will take further action accordingly,” added Singh.
