In latest news from Dehradun, the Rashtrawadi Regional Party (RRP) activists held demonstration against the alleged breakdown of the medical service in the Government Doon Medical College (GDMC). As the sloganeering continued, the deputy collector Salini Negi arrived at the protest site and received a memorandum from the demonstrators. She also assured them that all possible steps would be taken to address their grievances regarding the functioning of the premier government-run health facility of the State. Speaking on the objective behind the stir staged by his party, the RRP national president Shivprasad Semwal said that the on-duty doctors of the GDMC are doing private practice in blatant violation of the service norms, leaving the patients in the lurch. Echoing the same view, the party’s State president Rajendra Pant said that the Jan Aushadhi Kendra has been reduced to a showpiece with the doctors prescribing branded medicines instead of the generic ones with impunity. The RRP leaders further said that agents are moving around the hospital premises, prodding patients to go over to the private hospitals. They also alleged that the neither the Ayushman cards are providing any relief to the beneficiaries nor the hospital authority prioritises medical investigation of the patients. The CT Scan and Ultrasound machines are being made inoperative by some unscrupulous employees and no repairing work is being taken up for days, the RRP leaders alleged.
