Rs 26 Cr released for works worth Rs 48 Cr approved for disaster safety and redevelopment works in Kedar valley

A sum of Rs 48.36 crore has been approved by the State government for safety and redevelopment works in the Kedar valley. These include 29 works of the Public Works Department and 12 projects of the Irrigation department. It will be recalled that heavy rains and resulting landslides had caused considerable destruction in the valley on July 31. Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami not only monitored and directed the rescue and relief operations at the time but has also been regularly monitoring the requirements and necessary works in the affected area since then. He also deputed the Garhwal commissioner and Disaster Management secretary to regularly monitor the situation and developments in the area.
Officials stated that under the leadership of the Rudraprayag district magistrate Saurabh Gaharwar, the PWD and Irrigation department are undertaking disaster mitigation and redevelopment works amidst difficult conditions in the area. The July 31 disaster had damaged the bridle path to Kedarnath at 29 spots while the motor road was also washed out. The Mandakini and Son rivers in spate had damaged the embankment at various sites in the area. The officials informed that the local administration had sent a total of 41 proposals for safety and redevelopment works in various locations of the district. Following the chief minister’s nod, 29 works under the PWD costing Rs 1,934.86 lakh and 12 works of the Irrigation department worth Rs 2,901.77 lakh have been approved by the State government. A sum of Rs 1,472.21 lakh was released to the PWD and Rs 1,197.21 lakh was released to the Irrigation department for these works on Monday.
