The State Women Empowerment and Child Development (WECD) minister, Rekha Arya said that under the Mukhyamantri Vatsalya Yojana (MUY), a total of Rs 4.96 crore has been transferred to 5,542 beneficiaries for January, 5,517 beneficiaries for February and 5,487 beneficiaries for March. “I have made this transfer myself through digital means for the period from January 1 to March 31 of this year today,” she added.

Divulging details of this scheme, she said that financial assistance of Rs 3,000 per month is provided to the children and adolescents who lost their parents or guardians during the Covid-19 pandemic and this would continue till they turn 21 years of age.

While the number of beneficiaries under this scheme was initially high, some are excluded every month due to the beneficiaries reaching the age of 21, getting married or some other reasons.

The minister said that this government-run initiative has been providing significant support to the children who lost everything to the dreaded pandemic.

“In addition to the monthly financial assistance of Rs 3,000, the State government provides food, education and other necessities to the entitled children,” she added.
