Rs 4,200 crore outlay proposed for Rishikesh-Karnprayag rail project
An outlay of Rs 4,200 crore has been proposed for the Rishikesh-Karnparyag rail project in the union budget for 2021-22. The chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat thanked the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Union Railways minister Piyush Goyal for this. Rawat said that under the guidance of PM Modi and with the assistance of the Central government, much work has been done at a swift pace in Uttarakhand for enhancing connectivity in recent years. The dream of having a train in the mountains is also going to be fulfilled soon. The New Rishikesh railway station under the Rishikesh-Karnprayag rail project has been opened with operation of trains also starting from here. The Rs 4,200 crore proposed for this project in the budget for this year will enable the completion of the project within the set timeframe.
It is pertinent to mention here that the CM has been directly monitoring the Rishikesh-Karnprayag rail project consistently. The necessary formalities from the level of the state government have been completed on time. Top priority is being accorded to swift redressal of issues faced by Rail Vikas Nigam Limited and other executing agencies. Work on the Veerbhadra- New Rishikesh block section has been completed. Work on the 17 tunnels in the project has been divided into 10 packages. Work on ROBs across the Alaknanda river at Lachmoli and Srinagar has also been started. Similarly, work on road bridge is also in progress at Srinagar, Gauchar and Siwai. The work on the Rishikesh-Devprayag block section is to be completed by 2023-24 while work on Devprayag-Karnprayag block section is to be completed by 2024-25. In addition to this, work on alignment of four rail lines with a total length of 327 kilometres is also underway to link the Char Dham- Gangotri, Yamunotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath by rail.
