Rs 6,735.60 crore district plan budget approved for Haridwar

A budget of Rs 6,735.60 crore was approved for the year 2026-27 in a meeting of the District Plan Committee of Haridwar held on Wednesday.
The meeting was chaired by the minister in-charge of the district Satpal Maharaj. The meeting was marked with vociferous protest and boycott of the MLAs of opposition parties. In the meeting, opposition MLAs representatives alleged that their proposals were being consistently ignored.
Congress MLAs Mamta Rakesh, Ravi Bahadur and Anupama Rawat alleged that issues raised in the past meetings were not being taken seriously by the administration. Their protest was supported by other MLAs of Congress Virendra Jati and Furqan Ahmed and BSP MLA Mohammad Shahzad.
The meeting allocated a sum of Rs 5297.60 lakh for the general category, Rs 1,404.50 lakh for the Scheduled Caste category, and Rs 33.50 lakh for the Scheduled Tribe category in the district. Rawat said that approximately 15 per cent of the total budget will be allocated to sectors promoting self-employment opportunities. He said that for the first time, primary education has been included in the district plan, along with innovative activities like freshwater shrimp farming. The minister directed the officials to coordinate with public representatives to ensure that the benefits of development schemes reach eligible individuals. District magistrate Mayur Dixit claimed that proposals from all public representatives have been included in the plan.
