The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara has said that the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) is the biggest symbol of slavery and that the Bharatiya Janata Party should disband it.
Interacting with media persons at Rajiv Bhawan here on Monday, Mahara said that the Muslim League and the RSS were the two organisations which damaged the cause of freedom struggle by supporting the English. “It is the BJP which needs to change itself. It should first finish RSS. The Muslim League is almost finished. There is no other symbol of slavery than RSS. If it is finished, all the symbols of slavery would automatically get finished,’’ he said. He was speaking in the context of the claim made by the BJP that by changing the name of the Lansdowne and other places in Uttarakhand it is removing the symbols of slavery.
The PCC president added that the old and redundant laws which persist from the time of the British rule should be terminated. He said that the Cantonment Act should be done away with because it is responsible for the plight of the people residing in areas under the jurisdiction of the cantonment boards. On the question of the BJP’s government’s decision to implement the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in Gujarat, Mahara said that the BJP only engages in the politics of polarisation and it has no concern for the internal security, peace, economic development and brotherhood in the country. He said that the UCC is a subject of the Union government and had the BJP been serious on it, the party would have got it implemented during the past eight years but the party believes only in rhetoric.
The PCC president said that the Congress party is in favour of organising all the Assembly sessions in Gairsain and in fact it wants Gairsain to be made the permanent capital of the State. He said that the BJP government has done nothing in the last six years in Gairsain.
