RTO checks 1,358 vehicles carrying students to ascertain safety of students

The enforcement teams of the regional transport office (RTO) of Dehradun division have penalised a total of 429 vehicles carrying students during their campaign aimed ato ascertaining safe commuting for students. The teams checked a total of 1,358 vehicles in the four districts- Dehradun, Haridwar, Tehri and Uttarkashi during the campaign that started on Monday this week.
As per the data provided by the transport department officials, the teams checked 316 student-carrying vehicles in Dehradun city out of which, 102 public/private vehicles were penalised for flouting norms besides 40 school vehicles. The teams also seized eight vehicles in the city. In Rishikesh, the teams checked 234 vehicles and fined 62 public/private vehicles and 26 school vehicles besides seizing nine vehicles. The teams checked a total of 183 vehicles in Vikasnagar area out of which, 65 public/private vehicles and 19 school vehicles were penalised besides seizing 15 vehicles. In Roorkee, the teams checked 260 vehicles out of which they fined 79 public/private vehicles besides 17 school vehicles.
In the remaining three districts, the enforcement teams checked a total of 174 vehicles in Tehri, 119 in Uttarkashi and 72 vehicles in Haridwar throughout the campaign. As per the data, the teams penalised 49 public/private vehicles and 11 school vehicles in Tehri and 45 public/private vehicles and 14 school vehicles in Uttarkashi. In Haridwar, the teams fined 27 public/private vehicles and three school vehicles besides seizing three vehicles.
The assistant regional transport officer (enforcement) of Dehradun, NK Ojha informed that the campaign was proposed to run from Monday to Friday this week but due to public holidays on the past two days, the department could not run the campaign as most of the schools were closed. The regional transport officer (enforcement) Sunil Sharma also stated that the department will continue to conduct such campaigns on a regular basis to ensure students commute safely during weekdays. He said that guardians of students can also contact the RTO or send a mail at [email protected] to register their complaints about improper operation of students carrying vehicles.
