The Regional Transport Office (RTO) of Dehradun has increased the number of slots for learning licenses from 100 to 125 from Tuesday. The RTO has a considerable number of pending applications for driving licenses due to the rise in Covid-19 cases earlier this year.
The work was resumed on January 24 on the premises but the authorities made prior appointments mandatory to carry out works in the RTO besides limiting the number of slots provided to the applicants for learning license and permanent driving license. The RTO later removed the condition of booking online time slots to carry out works related to permits, challans, and others on the premises but did not increase the number of slots for learning and permanent driving licenses in order to clear the backlog of previous applications.
The regional transport officer (administration) Dinesh Chandra Pathoi informed that the RTO has been working on clearing the backlog in the past four months while ensuring that new applicants must be able to register new slots too. Considering this, the number of slots for learning licenses has been increased from 100 to 125 from Tuesday by RTO and more slots would be made available for the permanent licenses as well, added Pathoi.
