Wednesday, 09 August 2023 | PNS | DEHRADUN

Taking cognisance of several complaints received against illegal operation of private vehicles under app-based aggregators, the Transport department on Tuesday sent a final notice to Rapido. The regional transport officer (Enforcement) of the Dehradun division Shailesh Tiwari issued the notice on Tuesday evening after the protest of taxi union members. He said that the notice has been issued to Rapido stating that the company must get the aggregator license from the department to operate in the State as per the law.

The company has also been directed to provide their bike taxi service to locals using only commercial two-wheeler vehicles along with the proper documents required for the operation. He said that the department has also called the representatives of the company in the regional transport office to talk about the issue.

The enforcement team will also start a massive campaign to act against the illegal operation of vehicles under Rapido, added Tiwari. According to the officials, a total of 1,200 two-wheelers under Rapido are registered in RTO out of which about 300 operate illegally and only 40 operators have the permits. Tiwari said that the department will take strict action against the illegal operation of such vehicles working under Ola and Uber as well.
