The Regional Transport Office (RTO) Dehradun Division will conduct a night-time drive on traffic violators especially in the city’s hotspots, specifically targeting locations with pubs and bars, with the objective of preventing traffic and road safety violations. The drive will start on April 1 and remain in effect till further notice. It is pertinent to mention that the proliferation of pub and bar culture in Dehradun, particularly at night, has led to increased instances of altercations, road rage, accidents and other violations. These not only constitute a breach of regulations but also pose a significant risk to the safety of individuals and public alike.
Talking to The Pioneer, the regional transport officer (Administration) Sandeep Saini acknowledged the growing prevalence of bar and pub culture in the city, which he noted is contributing to an increase in traffic violations, road rage, speeding and other issues. He said that he recently witnessed a similar incident and took immediate action.
Saini further said that the RTO has planned a night crackdown on traffic violators. He stated that this operation will begin on April 1 and will continue till further notice. Instructions for this initiative have been communicated to the relevant officials. The crackdown will primarily target areas where pubs and bars are situated, including Rajpur Road, Sahastradhara, Mussoorie Road and Premnagar. He said that the enforcement operation in the designated areas will take place from 8 PM till midnight. This initiative will be carried out by RTO teams, who will act against violations such as speeding, drunk driving, reckless driving and other related offenses. Saini also said that it has been observed that visitors to several pubs and bars are parking their vehicles on the roads outside these establishments, leading to traffic congestion. Action will also be taken against such parking violations, especially against the establishments involved, he stated.
