The relatives of an 18 year old girl who died in Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) hospital created a ruckus in the hospital on Wednesday. They alleged that the girl died due to gross negligence and carelessness of the doctors and hospital staff and demanded immediate suspension of the doctors and staff responsible for her death. Refuting the claim of the relatives of the deceased the doctors attribute the death of the patient to shock syndrome.

The Principal of the GDMC Dr Ashutosh Sayana has set up a four- member committee to find the cause of the death of the girl.

The 18 year old girl, a resident of the Samalta of Chakrata was admitted in the emergency ward of the GDMC hospital on Tuesday night. The girl was suffering from high fever. Samalta resident Gopal said that her 18 year old daughter Nisha was suffering from fever for the last few days after which she was taken to the Lehman hospital Vikasnagar. He said that the doctors of the hospital referred the patient to GDMC as beds were not available.  The father of the deceased alleged that a patient of poisoning was admitted in the bed near his daughter and an injection which was to be administered to this patient was given to his daughter after which her condition deteriorated. Gopal said that froth came out of her mouth after the administration of injection following which she died.

The relatives of the girl claimed that her body was shifted to the mortuary of the hospital without informing them and created a furore in the hospital. The doctors said that the platelet count of the girl had decreased to 20,000 and she died due to shock syndrome.

The Principal Dr Sayana told The Pioneer that a four member committee headed by deputy medical superintendent Dr Dhananjay Dobhal has been constituted in the case.  He said that the committee will submit its report in three days. One PG student and three nursing staff have been sent on leave till the report is received, he said.
