Rudrapur has made a remarkable improvement in the Swachh Survekshan 2024–25 rankings, rising from 417th position in 2023-2024 to 68th nationally this year as per the data released by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) on Thursday. Within Uttarakhand, Rudrapur secured second place with a score of 9596, showing significant progress in sanitation performance. Despite this jump, no city from Uttarakhand featured in any national award category in the 2024–25 survey.

However, State-level rankings highlighted notable performances from several towns. Lalkuan secured the top spot in Uttarakhand with a score of 9,828. Mussoorie was ranked third with 8,711, followed by Doiwala with 8,606 points, Pithoragarh with 8,386, Bhimtal with 8341, Bhowali with 8340, Chinyalisaur with 8,319, Kotdwar with 7,914 and Rishikesh with 7,811 points in the top 10. Dehradun ranked 13th in Uttarakhand with a score of 7,614. Though it stood at 62nd nationally, its score was lower than several smaller towns in the State. Other cities included Haldwani (7,587), Ramnagar (7,562), Gularbhoj (7,335), Muni-ki-Reti (7,274), Narendranagar (7,224), Lohaghat (7,192) and Haridwar (7,189).

Haridwar ranked 20th in Uttarakhand, the lowest among the top 20 in the State rankings. The results indicate that while some towns like Rudrapur have made notable progress, overall performance from Uttarakhand’s urban local bodies has yet to meet the standards required for national-level recognition.
