Sacked contractual health workers continue protest in GDMC

Thursday, 07 April 2022 | PNS | Dehradun

The outsource workers of the health department who were removed from the service are continuing to hold Dharna at the Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) hospital. The workers pledged to continue their agitation till  the health department reappoints them.  On Wednesday, senior leader of Uttarakhand Congress Trilok Singh Sajwan and former secretary of Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) Mahesh Joshi went to the agitation site to extend their support to the agitating workers. Sajwan said that it is very unfortunate that the health workers who risked their lives to serve patients during the pandemic of Covid-19 have been thrown out by the BJP government immediately after assuming power.

Congress leader Mahesh Joshi said that the outsource workers are the real Corona warriors who saved many human lives during the Covid-19 even at the expense of their health and family lives.  He added that these workers served the patients when their  own relatives avoided them and many of them even conducted last rites of the Covid victims. Joshi said that instead of recognising the valuable contribution of these Corona warriors the state government has removed them from the service.

It is pertinent to mention that more than 600 workers in various posts were hired by the state government on contract during the pandemic of Covid-19 in the year 2020. Their contract was renewed last year but with considerable decline in the cases of Covid-19, the state health department removed them.
