Saffron setback: Cong wins posts of Doon Panchayat president, vice- president

Dealing a big blow to the ruling BJP, the Congress has won the elections held for the posts of the district Panchayat president and vice-president in Dehradun.  Sukhwinder Kaur won the post of the president reserved for women, defeating Madhu Chauhan, wife of the BJP MLA Munna Singh Chauhan who was a two-time district Panchayat president. The son of the Congress MLA Pritam Singh, Abhishek Singh won the post of the vice-president for his party.

As per the declared results, Sukhwinder Kaur got 17 votes while 18 votes were cast for Abhishek Singh.
